1. Multiple Commands Per Task
The concept behind a task is quite simple. A set of actions is performed to retrieve a certain result. When you are manually completing a task, you do step one, then step two, then step three and so on, until you reach your required result. That is also the concept with which AutoTask is designed. You build a set of actions, or commands, that need to run sequentially to complete a task. Commands such as starting and stopping programs, sending keystrokes to a specific window, sending DDE commands, are just a few of the available commands and options. Logic commands such as 'delay' or 'wait for program to finish', allow for greater control of your tasks. Whether your needs are simple or complex AutoTask can handle them.

2. Ability To Trigger Tasks Based On Conditions
AutoTask 2000 will allow you to launch a task based on certain conditions being true. Conditions such as whether or not a file exists, or whether not a specific program is running, or whether or not a specific window is visible are just a few of available triggers that you can define. This allows you to build logic into your tasks.

3. A Powerful Scheduling Engine
Scheduling flexibility is the key to successful automation. AutoTask’s scheduling engine goes beyond the basics (daily, weekly, monthly) of a scheduler. With AutoTask, you can define intervals such as - for example - every 5 minutes, every other day, every third working day, every second Tuesday of the month, twice a year etc. Along with the ability to define intervals, you can also set run times. For example, you could schedule a task to run every 5 minutes but only between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Or you could tell AutoTask to run a task only on workdays or holidays.

4. Runs As Service / Background Process
On Windows NT, 2000, XP or 2003 AutoTask runs as a service. This allows for many types of tasks to be ran in the background, even when the users are logged off. On Windows 95, 98 and ME which do not run services, the program runs as a background process, out of the way of your regular work.
