The number-one key to successful investing is to be a good investor. That is because some investment products are good investments some of the time, and some investment products are bad investments some of the time, and it takes a good investor to know the difference.
Investor education is the first step to being a good investor.Nancy's investor education book is an easy-to-read library of financial recipes that will get you cooking in the financial markets.
Nancy Woods does a great job of demystifying the world of stocks and bonds in an entertaining and light-hearted way. She provides a refreshing approach to investing by de-mystifyng the language and concepts of investing with a 'culinary' treatment that anyone can understand.
In this guide to understanding and creating a diversified financial investment portfolio, food analogies are used to explain confusing financial jargon and suggest that a healthy stock portfolio, like a nutritious meal, must be balanced. Equating bonds with potatoes, blue chip stocks with meat, and speculative stocks with desserts, this primer details the various types of investments available and explains how to choose suitable ventures. Both the novice and the experienced investor will benefit from the resources offered for using the Internet and other information sources to make informed financial choices.
This book provides a very unique and delicious way to digest financial tidbits. Turn the jets up on your stove and fire-up your portfolio; this is a must-read for those who, like me, have two favorite subjects: food and the stock market. Beef up your performance, enjoy the first course and don't get stuck with the leftovers.
Nancy Woods was a guest on our show, HOLDER OVERNIGHT. Her book, THE PORTFOLIO CHEF has a wonderfully novel approach for a financial book. As a guest Nancy was as entertaining and informative as her book is. THE PORTFOLIO CHEF is a satisfying meal of financial information that will have the reader wanting even more. When is our second helping coming?
Like many people, you have probably spoken to a financial advisor, stockbroker, or attended a financial seminar. After listening to the information how many of you have asked yourself or your partner, "Did you understand everything or anything we just heard?" It's ok. Be honest. There is no shame in admitting that, for most people, the lingo and concept of most investments can be confusing and outright foreign. Growing up in a financial environment I always thought my parents were speaking a different language. It has taken me years to truly understand the terms, jargon and nuances of the investment world. I am still learning something new. There are always new products being developed; new investments designed to be better than the last; and newer, faster ways to make your money grow. Once you understand the basic concepts behind investing, figuring out the other complex strategies will be a lot easier.
This book is divided into two sections: Section One, "Ingredients," looks at the various food types available; Section Two, "Preparing and Eating Your Meal," explains how to use the various ingredients to create a healthy an well balanced portfolio. Several of the ingredients chapters have two parts to help you build your investment knowledge: The first part explains the basics of what the investment is and how it works; the sections called "Now You're Cooking" is for the more experienced or adventurous investor.
