Sex Appeal: Six Ethical Principles for the 21st Century
Publisher: Oxford University Press | 2010 | PDF | 160 pages | ISBN: 0195393899 | 6.2Mb
UCLA psychology professor and sex authority Abramson (Romance in the Ivory Tower) offers six tenets for a healthy attitude towards sexuality in this well-written but unsurprising treatise. Though the book clocks in at a slim 160 pages, it feels much longer, as Abramson covers well-trod territory regarding sexual harassment, preventing childhood sexual abuse, the perils of sexually-transmitted diseases, and causes for marital happiness and discord. It also doesn't help that his six principles-do no harm, celebrate sex, be careful, know yourself, speak up and speak out, and throw no stones-can, admittedly, be boiled down to three: know thyself, respect others, and enjoy the ride. Abramson's arguments for honesty in relationships and the value of self-knowledge are unassailable, and backed up with occasionally absorbing anecdotes (for instance, a brief look at masculinity in the Sambia tribe of New Guinea), but anyone interested enough to purchase this classroom lecture in book form probably won't learn anything new.

Jam-packed with thought-provoking mathematical mysteries, puzzles, and games, Wonders of Numbers will enchant even the most left-brained of readers. Hosted by the quirky Dr. Googol--who resides on a remote island and occasionally collaborates with Clifford Pickover--Wonders of Numbers focuses on creativity and the delight of discovery. Classic Guitar Construction takes you step by step through the construction of a fine classic guitar. The book contains complete plans for an instrument, although the information is scattered and the body is shown half scale. Sloane uses very few power tools, explaining how to make and use the special jigs and tools you will need. The author describes wood selection, choice of adhesives, and finishing methods. The relatively low price makes this an easy choice for anyone wanting to build classic guitars or study their construction.
Surfing Through Hyperspace: Understanding Higher Universes in Six Easy Lessons
Publisher: Oxford University Press | 2001 | PDF | 272 pages | ISBN: 0195142411 | 15.4Mb
Like a number of his other books, Surfing is structured as a fiction, in this case an X-Files romance--Pickover clearly has a deep and personal appreciation for Scully (whom he calls "Sally," presumably on advice of counsel). You, dear reader, are the FBI's chief investigator of four-dimensional phenomena. As you and your cohorts chase bizarre manifestations from "upsilon" (4-D up) and "delta" (4-D down), Pickover provides explanations, paradoxes, and problems, with many helpful drawings and computer-generated illustrations.

Cell Cycle Regulation and Differentiation in Cardiovascular and Neural Systems
Publisher: Springer | 2010 | PDF | 300 pages | ISBN: 160327152X | 5.8Mb
Complex physiopathological relationships have been proven to exist between two of the body’s most vital organs; the brain and the heart. In Cell Cycle Regulation and Differentiation in Cardiovascular and Neural Systems Antonio Giordano, Umberto Galderisi and a panel of the most respected authorities in their field offer an in-depth analysis of the differentiation process in two systems that have profound relationships with one another. The text looks at several aspects of the cardiovascular and nervous systems from a new point of view, describing the differences and similarities in their differentiation pathways with an emphasis on the role of cell cycle regulation and cell differentiation.
This text is orientated towards actual construction of a compiler, rather than the theory underlying compiler construction. This hands-on approach allows students to write a complete compiler which translates a simple algorithmic language to the assembly code of a real computer. The book gives a consistent overall picture of the compiler construction problem, emphasizing the important sub-problems and providing systematic, intuitive approaches to solving them.

2007 | 288 pages | ISBN:0865715181 | PDF | 8 Mb
Straw bale houses are easy to build, affordable, super energy efficient, environmentally friendly, attractive, and can be designed to match the builder's personal space needs, esthetics and budget. Despite mushrooming interest in the technique, however, most straw bale books focus on "selling" the dream of straw bale building, but don't adequately address the most critical issues faced by bale house builders. Moreover, since many developments in this field are recent, few books are completely up to date with the latest techniques.
