It is the first game to be released on the PlayStation 3-based System 357 arcade board. At the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, it was announced the console version of Tekken 6 will include the new stages and characters of Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, while the PlayStation Portable version will feature additional content to its console counterparts. On October 9th 2009, it was announced that development of Tekken 6 had ceased, and development on the title finished, ready for mass production of the title.
Tekken 6, which will be released on October 27 for the PS3, PSP, and Xbox 360, is the sequel to Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection which have been well-received by fans of the "Tekken" fighting games. Katsuhiro Hirada, game director for Tekken 6 and previous Tekken games, said that the stages will be bigger and will have more interactivity, such as walls or floors that can be broken to reveal new fighting areas. The character customization feature has been enhanced, and will be more involved with the gameplay.
A new "rage" system has been added, which gives characters more power when their vitality is low. When activated, a red energy field surrounds the character and their health bar starts to flicker red.The rage aura can be customized in customization mode. Another gameplay feature added is the "bound" system. If certain conditions are met, such as slamming the opponent strongly to the ground or falling in a multi-tiered stage, the opponent will bounce back from the ground, allowing bigger combos and new techniques.
The console versions will have an extra mode entitled "Scenario Campaign" which bears similarities with the "Tekken Force" and "Devil Within" modes from previous installments. This mode can be played co-operatively with two players, and allows the players to pick up weapons such as poles and gatling guns. Players can move freely between fights, but when a group of enemies are encountered, the gameplay switches to the traditional Tekken style.
Both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will include an online versus multiplayer mode over PlayStation Network and Xbox Live respectively. Other features in the console versions include a toggle option for motion blur.
