No doubt about it. Sammy puts on the best live shows ever, but most of his success is from his old stuff. The two songs with Neil Schon jam big time and riff master Billy Duffy (The Cult) churns out another one on Loud! Overall, the cd is very solid and Sammy's voice just gets better with age. Is this guy really in his 60's?
Sammy Hagar is still THE RED ROCKER, with this new cd he is doing a great job at it. LYRICS? Who listens to Sammy for his lyrics anyway. LISTEN TO HIS VOICE! this one just simply ROCKS! This albumn really does rock, is really an excellent tune! The song that completely tune LOUD
The Red Rocker has been pretty consistent since leaving Van Halen back in 1996, releasing a new album every few years. For the most part they've been pretty good; even if they weren't classics there'd be at least a couple of songs fans of old-school 70s/80s rock would like. The hard-rocking "Ten 13" (2000) and the Jimmy Buffet-esque "Livin' it Up" (2006) were especially good.
After parting ways with vocalist
DAVID LEE ROTH, the remaining members of the band Van Halen contacted many potential replacements. Given Eddie's appreciation of Montrose and his car mechanic's suggestion, the band auditioned and quickly hired Hagar to fill the opening. With Hagar at the front,
VAN HALEN produced four multi-platinum,
Hagar is currently developing a side project called "Chickenfoot" with Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitarist Joe Satriani, which will include a yet unnamed studio album release.
Yes, there is a much harder edge to this album than the last few Wabos albums and it is nice to hear some metalistic guitar work (portions sound remarkably like Eddie V) and the pounding drive. But if you are looking for the blend of that hard driving rock and Sammy's more melodic side, this isn't the album for you. The slinky "Vertigo" and a reworked, downbeat, somewhat melancholy live version of "Dreams" are cool, but apart from that, little stands out. Sammy will rebound, no doubt.
This is a must have for all Red Heads. Every tune hits home! And the new guitar player is great (sounds a little like the guy who played on Rich Wyman's Fatherless Child). The leads kick! Also Sammy's voice is in top form and it is amazing he can continue to write such original "hip" lyrics. Cosmic Universal Fashion, the title track, is in itself very innovative, in that Sam co-wrote the tune with an Iraqi rocker (an alternative version of the track can be heard on the CD by Baghdad Heavy Metal). "Loud" is another stand-out track, it was written for Sammy by a friend and best played at full volume. Either fun or serious, the rest of the tracks flat out rock. And the bonus version of Dreams/Cabo kicked my heart in the a**. Here's to many more years of the Red Rocker and his friends (all his friends). We'll always have our....dreams!!!
