#14: E-Books : The Art of Day Trading |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 17 January 2009 | Views: 1786 |
| |
It's no secret most day-trading profits are made by floor traders. They not only have the advantages of low commissions and ease of execution, but they have the "edge" or the ability to buy at the bid price and sell at the ask price. Although day-trading off the floor is a completely different game, traders also must have some sort of advantage that will give them a trading edge. Certainly live, tick-by-tick quoting equipment is necessary, along with charting and technical analysis software. Most novice day-traders watch prices, analyze various intraday charts and indicators, thinking they can assimilate this flow of information and make profitable trades. They often hope for some sort of "sixth sense" to give them an advantage. Unfortunately, the market usually demonstrates it has more of a sixth sense and soon separates the trader from his money. Something concrete is needed to give a trader the confidence and commitment to "pull the trigger." There are so many examples in books and magazine articles isolating some guru's favorite chart formation or technical indicator that shows where to buy or sell. |

#18: E-Books : Japanese Candlesticks |

If someone told you they had uncovered a 300 year old secret that had the potential to bring great wealth, would you listen? If this, then, could explain the mysteries behind the secret so that you could profit as well, would you be interested? For those of you who are involved in the stock market, technical analysis can be somewhat of a mystery. You research and study, yet your trades just don’t end up being very successful. All you need to know is how to recognize the easily-seen signals the Japanese Candlesticks create. A candlestick chart is a style of bar- chart used primarily to describe price movements of an equity over time. It is a combination of a line- chart and a bar- chart, in that each bar represents the range of price movement over a given time interval. It is most often used in technical analysis of equity and currency price patterns. They appear superficially similar to error bars, but are unrelated. Candlestick charts are said to have been developed in the 18th century by legendary Japanese rice trader Homma Munehisa. The charts gave Homma and others an overview of open, high, low, and close market prices over a certain period. This style of charting is very popular due to the level of ease in reading and understanding the graphs. Since the 17th century, there has been a lot of effort to relate chart patterns to the likely future behavior of a market. This method of charting prices proved to be particularly interesting, due to the ability to display five data points instead of one. The Japanese rice traders also found that the resulting charts would provide a fairly reliable tool to predict future demand. |

What is Biorhythm? A biorhythm is a theoretical process by which the human body and mind are regulated according to set patterns. Biorhythms are usually separated into three distinct groups: the emotional, mental, and physical cycles. Classically, the lengths of these cycles are 28 days, 33 days, and 23 days respectively. Calculating one’s biorhythms is accomplished by dividing the number of days a person has lived by the biorhythm cycle one is calculating. The remainder represents how far into the current cycle one is. Biorhythms are thought to follow a regular wave, oscillating back and forth over the length of the cycle. On the first day of one’s cycle, one is thought to be at an optimal functioning level, while at the low point, a person is viewed as being at his or her worst possible level of functional capability. |

#20: E-Books : When the Dow Breaks by Donald L. Cassidy |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 8 January 2009 | Views: 402 |
| |
In contrast to Wall Street's hold-forever theorists, author Donald Cassidy believes we can understand stock volatility, and, subsequently, dodge market downturns and capitalize on bargain-basement prices. Buying and "holding forever," writes Cassidy, "is like suggesting you wear the same clothing year-round despite known radical changes in temperature and snow depth." By learning the history of market patterns and understanding that emotions drive prices, he continues, rational investors can profit greatly from the mistakes of the masses. Of course, predicting stock runs is easier said than done. Cassidy attempts to do so by charting market patterns from 1950 through the 1990s, profiling market and individual stock behavior at their peaks as well as their valleys. As for risky markets, he observes these patterns: "Two years or longer with no correction of at least 10 percent in the major averages; a long period of economic expansion already in place; large numbers of new companies going public." Cassidy, a senior research analyst for Lipper Inc., also pays special attention to the psychology of investing, especially that of dealing with a market on the brink of change. He cites internal factors (greed, ego, perfectionism) and external influences (media, friends, brokers) that influence emotions, and, ultimately, drive markets. Finally, he offers clever ways to manage taxes as investors--ideally historically aware, rational investors--shift their portfolios toward low-risk, high-reward results. |

#23: E-Books : Day Trading With Short Term Price Patterns and Opening Range Breakout by Toby Crabel |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 6 January 2009 | Views: 2476 |
| |
This author is one of the few that have touched upon one of the most fundamental and universal properties of almost any market. Whether your games is futures or equities, look at any chart and you will see periods of little price activity alternating with periods of greater price movement. This is the crux of this book. Markets invariably move from stages of expansion, to contraction, and back to expansion, etc. Several other price patterns and technical analysis approaches are tested as well. However, after reading this book, you will no longer be one of those who try to "get in" on a runaway bull or bear market - only to have it turn right around on you as if it knew you were coming, but rather, you will be one of the ones who are ready when an otherwise "dead" market takes everyone else by surprise. The main ideas in the book have to do with expansion and contraction in volatility and moves off the open (Opening Range Breakouts). Toby is a successful hedge fund manager, having worked for Victor Niederhoffer before starting his own company. Toby's returns are good, but his risk management is far better. Toby's funds have grown primarily due to his excellent risk management skills as opposed to his returns. In layman's terms this means that he hardly ever loses money but he doesn't make much for his clients. This is actually fairly unique and he should be commended for finding this niche in the business. |

#28: E-Books : 30 Days to Market Mastery by Jacob Bernstein |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 27 December 2008 | Views: 942 |
| |
The best thing to be gleaned here is the methodology itself. The methodology is first a setup, then a trigger, then follow through. A setup is a seasonal correlation or momentum divergence, as examples. Then a trigger gets you in the trade, like a stochastics crossover. Follow through is simply money management. This book provides excellent clarity in finding potential trades, determining an appropriate entry and subsequently managing the trade. Momentum divergence is the main indicator and the methodology is clearly detailed in terms of the setup, the trigger and the follow through. Questions are included at the end of the chapters. It is not difficult to use the methodology on any charting software. The methods can be extended to utilize other similar indicators. Reading this book is a low risk proposition with major potential rewards. This is definitely one book that any new trader should read. An excellent book for new traders, 30 Days to Market Mastery outlines an easy-to-understand and easy-to-implement approach to learning how to trade. This book covers the fundamentals of how to structure trades in a disciplined fashion, so as to avoid vague decisions and acting on unclear trading signals. It also provides a number of strategies for entering and exiting the market in a way that maximizes the chances of making money and minimizes the potential for losing money. With this book as their guide, readers will learn the proper organizational, analytical, and behavioral skills that are vital to consistent success in trading. In 30 Days to Market Mastery each trading day contains a single lesson, and each lesson contains a quiz to help the reader master the material. |

#29: E-Books : Float Analysis by Steve Woods |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 25 December 2008 | Views: 1146 |
| |
This book is really good since it takes a subject (A Stocks Float) and explains its` important role, and gives the reader a little more education on buying and selling power in the markets and this may be a brilliant new concept. A stock's float is the total number of shares available to the public for trading. When this total number of shares gets traded in the market (whether over a week, a month, or a year), you have a "float turnover". This book argues that float turnovers are closely correlated with significant price moves. It's a simple and clear idea, made all the more persuasive by the fact that there's a common-sense explanation for it: a float turnover represents an complete change of ownership in who holds the stock; so if, for example, the new owners are significantly more bullish than the previous owners, they will be more reluctant to sell, and the price will rise. Mr. Woods makes a good case that the float is a relevant piece of information, and I don't doubt that many traders will be grateful to him for bringing this to their attention. |
