This first-person shooter became an Xbox exclusive after Microsoft bought the developer, Bungie. Halo for the Xbox has gone on to sell more than 3 million copies worldwide--which isn't proof of the game's superior quality, but certainly is evidence of it. Yet, the game was never officially canceled for its originally intended platforms, and at long last, it's available for the PC. For the most part, this new version of Halo is a straight port of the 2-year-old Xbox game. You'd think a high-end PC could handle such a game easily, but this port, which was done by Gearbox Software, is surprisingly taxing even on very fast PCs with tons of RAM and the latest video cards. Halo for the PC also loses the original version's much-vaunted cooperative play mode. But in spite of all that, and in spite of the very high standards for first-person shooters on the PC, Halo is still an incredible action game. It's a true classic--a game that hasn't lost any of its impact and intensity over time. |

Battlestrike Force Of Resistance (2008)It is September, 1943. The armies of the 3rd Reich occupy virtually the entire territory of Europe. The lands taken by the Germans spread from Brest, a town on the western brink of the continent, to the suburbs of Stalingrad. Numerous resistance groups operate in the occupied regions of Europe. Using the tactics of surprise attacks and the support from local people, they can effectively confront much larger, better-equipped and trained troops of the enemy. The British government dispatches one of its best commandos to the Central Europe. Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus are the countries where the resistance movements are most active. The Englishman's tasks involve training and support for local guerrilla fighters in the most daring sabotage and diversion actions. Among others, you will embark on typical missions like blowing up bridges, assaults on enemy convoys to stack up necessary ammo and weapons. The player will also participate in a bank robbery, and last but not least -- destroy a legendary facility producing V2 rockets! |

Battlefront includes 16 different maps, spread out over 10 different planets that range from the dusty landscape of Geonosis to the forests of Endor to the rain-swept oceans of Kamino. As in Battlefield 1942's conquest mode, players must capture specific spots on the map called "command points." Your team spawns at command points, as do vehicles, so it's important to protect the ones you control and capture the other ones away from your enemy. The team that controls the majority of the command points at any given moment causes the other team's score ticker to count down; once one team's countdown hits zero, the other side wins. Control all the points on the map for 20 seconds, and your team will automatically win. people this is a highly compressed game so enjoy it When Star Wars: Battlefront was announced a year ago, the premise excited many fans of George Lucas' sci-fi franchise, if only because it just made so much sense. Battlefront would take some of the ubiquitous characters, vehicles, and weapons from Star Wars and incorporate them into a Battlefield 1942-style team-based shooter, featuring large maps, dozens of players, and plenty of drivable vehicles, in addition to on-foot shooting. Now that the game is finally available, we can confirm that Battlefront delivers this experience--no more and no less. It's a solid multiplayer action game on its own merits, even if the premise is familiar. As such, how much you'll finally end up liking it will probably depend on how much you like Star Wars and how much Battlefield-style gameplay you've already been exposed to. |
