I feel lucky to have come across Maalouf's book. There's nothing pedantic about this great adventure story in which the stakes are high and the characters are larger than life. His exciting narrative clearly tells a story covering couple of centuries of cataclysmic events in a way that is easy to understand despite the enormous cast of characters, who each had different motives for their actions. There are battles, sieges, assassinations, and political intrigue swirling around the region we know today as the Middle East. It was not a contest for domination between two groups, but among many: Arabs, Turks, the Catholic West, the Orthodox East, and the Mongol hordes!

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game game developed by Relic Entertainment based on Games Workshop's popular tabletop wargame, Warhammer 40,000. It was released by THQ on September 20, 2004 in North America. Since its release, three expansion packs have been released: Winter Assault in 2005, Dark Crusade in 2006 and Soulstorm in 2008. The sequel, Dawn of War II was released in February 2009.

The Game of the Year edition was released on September 21, 2005 in the USA and on September 23 in Europe, containing 4 exclusive maps. Later, the Game of the Year edition and Winter Assault were bundled in the Gold Edition in the USA, released in March 2006. In November 2006, Dawn of War and its first two expansions were released together as The Platinum Collection in the USA or as the Dawn of War Anthology in the PAL regions. April 8, 2008 - Despite enormous commercial success on consoles, developer Ubisoft didn't completely slack off when it came to developing the PC version of their highly successful third-person action game, Assassin's Creed. This is a real concern for PC gamers. Many developers seem to almost forget they're even bringing their console-focused titles to mouse and keyboard aficionados, sometimes neglecting to remove console interface layouts (The Club), omitting adequate video or control configurations (Resident Evil 4), or just otherwise displaying obvious disregard for functionality and ease of use (Phantasy Star Universe).

Assassin's Creed, on the other hand, has all the features you'd expect in a PC game. Customizable controls, various graphical settings to scale performance, the choice of DX 9 and DX 10 modes for gamers with more high-end hardware, and all the proper UI icons mean PC gamers won't have to wince in pain at the sight of a giant green "A" button icon to select or apply options in menus. Yes it's minor in the overall scheme of things, but it shows Ubisoft actually paid attention. Beyond that, Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut represents a style of gameplay not often seen on PCs. It's not without quirks and definitely tailored for the tastes of someone like me, a guy who appreciates sandbox environments and the ability to sow destruction and mayhem into a virtual world, although such a description could likely be ascribed to a wide range of gamers.
