gOS 3.1 Linux | 680 mbgOS or "good OS" is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution created by ‘good OS LLC’, a Los Angeles-based corporation. Its CIO Dave Liu described that after meeting Enlightenment and open source people he realized that his dream to bring Web 2.0 applications into mainstream use could be realized by creating a Linux distribution that made it easy for users to access Google and other Web 2.0 applications gOS 3.1 Gadgets gOS 3.1 Gadgets was launched on January 3, 2009 as an upgraded bug fixed version of gOS 3.0 gadgets. This version fixes some bugs in gOS 3.0, but isn’t a obligatory update for gOS 3.0 as most bugs in gOS 3.0 will be fixed using the built in updater automatically (but do not manually try to upgrade from Ubuntu 8.10 repositories as they are incompatible with gOS 3.0). gOS 3.1 is not an "upgrade package" but a new Linux distro, you can download from the good OS site the old version is no longer available. |

Portable HandBrake v0.9.3 (NEW - for Mac) l 4.7 MB "open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 converter" EditByBrothersoft: "The trick is to combine your waking rational abilities with the infinite possibilities of your dreams. Because, if you can do that, you can do anything." Universal inputHandBrake is no longer limited to DVDs: it will now accept practically any type of video as a source. This massive enhancement was achieved by tapping into the power of libavcodec and libavformat from the FFmpeg project. Linux GUIThere is now an official GTK graphical interface for Linux, available as a binary for Ubuntu. This is The Real Deal, interacting directly with HandBrake's core library instead of just putting a pretty face on a command line interface. It has full feature parity with the Mac interface. Video qualityThe x264 project has really come into its own this year, and HandBrake 0.9.3 integrates the latest improvements to the H.264 encoding library. Picture quality has enhanced dramatically through the use of psychovisual rate distortion and adaptive quantization, and there have been significant speed optimizations. |

#19: Operating System : Paranoid Linux |

| |
Paranoid Linux is an operating system that assumes that its operator is under assault from the government (it was intended for use by Chinese and Syrian dissidents), and it does everything it can to keep your communications and documents a secret. It even throws up a bunch of "chaff" communications that are supposed to disguise the fact that you're doing anything covert. So while you're receiving a political message one character at a time, Paranoid Linux is pretending to surf the Web and fill in questionnaires and flirt in chat-rooms. Meanwhile, one in every five hundred characters you receive is your real message, a needle buried in a huge haystack. Cory Doctorow (Little Brother, 2008) Paranoid Linux is a OS dreamed up by Cory Doctorow in his book Little Brother and brought to life by a bunch of hackers. THIS IS NOT A FULL RELEASE, THIS IS NOT EVEN A BETA RELEASE, THIS IS AN ALPHA RELEASE. Currently Paranoid Linux is no more than a souped up version of Ubuntu and as such still looks like Ubuntu, what with the Ubuntu boot screen and the Ubuntu theme with the gnome window manager. |

Mandriva is regarded as one of the best distributions (together with openSUSE and Ubuntu) for Linux newbies. It provides lots of useful graphical wizards for configuring most of the system settings. Lots of them are not found in any other Linux distribution. Mandriva uses RPM as their package format, but is not compatible with Fedora's or Suse's RPM-s. The default package manager is urpmi, but the new powerful tool Smart is also supported. The default desktop is KDE. Gnome is also included and configured. The latest stable version, Mandriva Discovery 2006 includes a few novelties like an interactive firewall or a search tool KAT (like Beagle or Google Desktop Search). Mandriva is very well localized — it can be installed in all the popular languages. It fits great for newbie users, but t's also used by lots of experienced ones, who don't like to fight with Debian, Slackware or Gentoo. After the latest merges (with Connectiva and Lycoris) it changes its name from Mandrake linux to Mandriva and this is how we call the system now. |

To name a few Redhat Linux, Suse Linux, Mandriva Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Caldera Linux, Slackware Linux, Gentoo Linux, K ubuntu Linux etc. Linux based file system too is prone to data loss, you may face data loss due to: * Lost / Corrupted MBR * Lost / Corrupted Super Block * Lost / Corrupted Inode Table * Deletion of Files & Folders * Corruption in Root Directory * Corrupt BGD (Block Group Descriptor) Linux Data Recovery ScenarioOnce data loss happens it is presumed that data has lost forever, whether it is a result of software malfunction, or human error, this can be disastrous. When such a disaster appears, what can be done? Many users accept that their files are gone forever and face all subsequent losses. However, this is not necessarily the way it has to be. Even when Linux does not have a practicable solution for the recovery of lost data, hope is now a possibility with Disk Doctors Linux Data |
