Encyclopedia of Social Psychology 2 Volumes - 9.15MB Encyclopedia of Social Psychology (2 Volume Set) Roy F. Baumeister 1248 pages Publisher: Sage Publications, Inc; 1 edition (August 29, 2007) Language: English ISBN-10: 1412916704 Social psychology, defined in this encyclopedia’s introduction as “the study of how ‘normal’ people think, feel, and act,” is part of all academic psychology departments. As is the case with most subdisciplines, the field has its own vocabulary, usage of terms, and history. Although there are numerous encyclopedias of psychology as a whole, there has been little published specifically in the area of social psychology. In the introduction, editors Baumeister (Florida State University) and Vohs (University of Minnesota) make a special point of describing how they sought only experts in the field to write the articles, and how those articles are designed to meet the needs of readers who are new to the field, without being simplistic. This is, in all its aspects, an excellent example of a subject encyclopedia. More than 550 entries cover diverse topics and follow a clear and easy-to-understand format. Each begins with a definition and ends with see also references and a list of further readings. At the front of each volume are an alphabetical list of entries as well as a “Reader’s Guide,” which sorts entries into thematic groupings. At the end of each volume is a comprehensive index. There are no biographical entries. |

| |
In this volume, now available in paperback, Paul Davidson investigates why the 1990s was a decade of financial crises that almost precipitated a global market crash. He explores the reasons why the global economy still struggles with the aftermath of these crises and discusses the possibility that volatile financial markets in the future will have real impacts on whole industries and national economic systems. This book should be a classic in economics. Paul Davidson combines dazzling clarity and a passion for economic truth and common sense in illuminating the dark thickets surrounding today’s free enterprise system. Professional economists and concerned citizens should both pay heed to this fine book. |

Empire: Total War MULTi8-PROPHET 2009Empire: Total War is a turn-based strategy and real-time tactics computer game developed by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega. The fifth instalment in the Total War series, the game was released in North America on 3 March 2009, and in the rest of world the following day. The game, which focuses on the early modern period of the 18th century, was announced at the Leipzig Games Convention in August 2007. Following a similar style of interface and play to earlier Total War titles, players choose a contemporary 18th century faction and set out to ensure that faction's domination over the known world through military force, politics, diplomacy, espionage and economics. Although the campaign element of the game is turn-based, players can direct battles in real-time. Empire: Total War is the first game in the series to allow naval battles to be conducted in real-time. In addition to the standard campaign mode, the game includes a special campaign that follows the development of the United States from the settlement of Jamestown to the American War of Independence. Players may also engage in recreations of several historical battles from the early modern era. |

This is a book on Financial Economics from a dynamic perspective. It focuses on the dynamic interaction of financial markets and economic activity. The financial markets to be studied here encompasses the money and bond market, credit market, stock market and foreign exchange market. Economic activity is described by the activity of firms, banks, households, governments and countries. The book shows how economic activity affects asset prices and the financial market and how asset prices and financial market volatility feed back to economic activity. The focus in this book is on theories, dynamic models and empirical evidence. Empirical applications relate to episodes of financial instability and financial crises of the U.S., Latin American, Asian as well as Euro-area countries. Overall, the book presents material that researchers and practitioners in financial engineering need to know about economic dynamics and that economists, practitioners and policy makers need to know about the financial market. |

#23: E-Books : Exchange Rate Regimes Choices and Consequences Atish R. Ghosh |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 21 July 2009 | Views: 211 |
| |
This book takes a systematic look at the evidence on macroeconomic performance under alternative exchange rate regimes, drawing on the experience of some 150 member countries of the International Monetary Fund over the past thirty years. Among other questions, it asks whether pegging the exchange rate leads to lower inflation, whether floating exchange rates are associated with faster output growth, and whether pegged regimes are particularly prone to currency and other crises. The book draws on history and theory to delineate the debate and on standard statistical methods to assess the empirical evidence. Few topics in international economics are as controversial as the choice of an exchange rate regime. Since the breakdown of the Bretton Woods system in the early 1970s, countries have adopted a wide variety of regimes, ranging from pure floats at one extreme to currency boards and dollarization at the other. While a vast theoretical literature explores the choice and consequences of exchange rate regimes, the abundance of possible effects makes it difficult to establish clear relationships between regimes and common macroeconomic policy targets such as inflation and growth. |

#25: E-Books : Macroeconomics Understanding The Wealth Of Nations |
| |
| |
Author: David Miles and Andrew Scott Publisher: Steve Hardman File size: 7 mb File type: pdf In this chapter we show you what macro economics is about by looking at some of the big questions that macroeconomists ask: Why do some countries enjoy a standard of living many times greater than others? How does growth in productivity evolve over time? Why does the economy fluctuate between expansions and contractions? What impact do changes in interest rates or in oil prices have upon the economy? We draw out what is distinctive about macro economics and contrast it with micro economics, and illustrate this distinction by focusing on the types of risk that affect individuals and companies. |
