The Women is a comedy about contemporary womanhood and the power of female relationships. Based on George Cukor’s 1939 film and Clare Boothe Luce’s 1936 stage play, The Women whisks us into a busy pocket of Manhattan society, where the publishing, fashion and finance industries play. At the center of the tale is Mary Haines, a thoroughly modern woman suddenly confronted with an age-old dilemma: a cheating husband. The ladies in her life swiftly rally to Mary’s side, led by her best friend, Sylvie Fowler, a dynamic magazine editor. But when Sylvie betrays Mary in a Faustian bargain, the entire group is shaken to the core – and two women face the most painful breakup of all – their friendship.

Elliot Goldenthals work includes such film scores as Aliens 3, Batman Forever and the Academy Award winning Frida. Highlight of the soundtrack is a a newly recorded version of the standard Bye, Bye, Blackbird sung by the incomparable Diana Krall. Other interpolations are by contemporary bluesman Otis Taylor.

After a two year wait, Aaron Watson's highly-anticipated album, Angels & Outlaws, has arrived. The follow up to 2006's San Angelo, Watson's eighth album contains 15 songs ranging from an obscure Waylon Jennings cover "Tulsa" to Aaron's version of John Mayer's Heart of Life ; and is rounded out by 13 Watson-penned tunes. Watson has written something for everyone, incorporating traditional elements of fiddle and steel guitar while keeping the music current.
Included on Angels & Outlaws are such standout songs as the rowdy sing-along "That's What I Like About A Country Song" featuring guest performances by Jack Ingram, Kevin Fowler, Roger Creager and Ray Benson, along with the lead single Hearts Are Breaking Across Texas , and the soon-to-be favorite, Love Makin' Song. All in all this a great country album that fans of mainstream and traditional country, young and old can enjoy.

The eleventh edition of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary has been fully revised, updated, and redesigned, as is appropriate for the first Concise of the 21st century. The dictionary contains more than 240,000 words, phrases, and meanings, of which almost 2,000 are new to this edition.

The new entries give us a snapshot of life in 2004. The news is filled with talk of gangmasters, the congestion charge, sky marshals, and health tourism; pole dancing, bookcrossing, and speed dating are the things that entertain us; football matches can end in handbags, and bumsters are popular with middle youth and metrosexuals. And, of course, if we want to make something seem more interesting we sex it up.

The Concise also says croeso (welcome) to some Welsh words with bore da (good morning) and iechyd da (good health) joining thousands of words from all around the English-speaking world: dicky (car boot) and batchmate (classmate) from India, spinny (mad, crazy) from Canada, and bloviate (talk at length in an inflated or empty way) from America.
