101 Puppy Pets - PC | 92.7 MBProducer: Viva Media Genre: Family | Adventure Size: 92.7 MB (RS + HF + ULD) YOU are the owner of a brand new puppy. Genetics is nothing new around your neighborhood. Pink Dalmatians, blue Labradors, green Bulldogs, while I was disappointed in the winner of some of the dog show contestants, on the other hand, your kids will be very excited and entertained... While there is no basic storyline in 101 Puppy Pets, each puppy is in fact a unique story. Time passes, and you have to simulate your pet’s existence. As in most other games as well as the world, money is the key in this game as well. Feeding your dog costs money, as a matter of fact, let’s just say that just about anything costs money. Each puppy is a different story; the story of that pet; and you run its life. Treat your puppy kindly; he/she is family. The story moves on as long as you are loaded on that particular puppy; to change “stories”, just load up a different puppy. |

What makes DNA different from hordes of competitors purporting to help readers understand genetics is that it is written by none other than James Watson, of Watson and Crick fame. He and his co-author Andrew Berry have produced a clear and easygoing history of genetics, from Mendel through genome sequencing. |

#10: E-Books : From Genesis to Genetics - The Case of Evolution and Creation (NEW) |

ISBN 0-520-22441-8 | English | 241 pages | PDF | 6.4 MB The clash between evolution and creationism is one of the most hotly contested topics in education today. This book, written by one of America's most distinguished science educators, provides essential background information on this difficult and important controversy. Giving a sweeping and balanced historical look at both schools of thought, John A. Moore shows that faith can exist alongside science, that both are essential to human happiness and fulfillment, but that we must support the teaching of science and the scientific method in our nation's schools. This highly informative book will be an invaluable aid for parents, teachers, and lawmakers, as well as for anyone who wants a better understanding of this debate. From Genesis to Genetics shows us why we must free both science and religion to do the good work for which each is uniquely qualified. Using accessible language, Moore describes in depth these two schools of thought. He begins with an analysis of the Genesis story, examines other ancient creation myths, and provides a nuanced discussion of the history of biblical interpretation. After looking at the tenets and historical context of creationism, he presents the history of evolutionary thought, explaining how it was developed, what it means, and why it is such a powerful theory. Moore goes on to discuss the relationship of nineteenth-century religion to Darwinism, examine the historic Scopes trial, and take us up to the current controversy over what to teach in schools. Most important, this book also explores options for avoiding confrontations over this issue in the future. |

Malaria: Genetic and Evolutionary Aspects (US$129) | 1.8 MB his book is an edited collection of papers by leading experts on the population genetics and evolutionary biology of malaria, a disease which results in three million deaths each year in the world. "Malaria Hypothesis" refers to the hypothesis, which was proposed by J.B.S. Haldane at the 8th International Congress of Genetics in Stockholm in 1948, that the identical geographic distribution of both falciparum malaria and thalassemia in the mediterranean region. suggests that the heterozygous individuals for thalassemia (or microcythemia as it was called then) might have greater resistance to malarial infection. Haldane, later in the same year, expanded his theory to infectious disease in general at another international conference, at Pallanza in Italy. Haldane's hypothesis was subsequently confirmed in the African populations by A.C. Allison and later by others during the last fifty years, although at first for sickle cell anemia and later for thalassemia with varying degrees of success. The malaria hypothesis still remains today a unique example of that kind of balanced polymorphism, not only in genetics but in all of biology. It opened up new insights into our perspective of the genetics and population dynamics of disease prevalence, particularly infectious disease. |

Publisher: Springer | 2008-04 | 626 pages | ISBN: 3540297332 | 21.96 MB Beginning with the scientific basis of tumors, "The Surgery of Childhood Tumors" provides up-to-date information on epidemiology, cyto genetics and molecular biology, before looking at current treatments, integrating surgery, neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Additionally, a chapter on counseling reflects the book's holistic approach to treating children with cancer. The chapters are written by world-renowned international authorities on pediatric cancer from major children's cancer groups in the UK, Europe and the US. Contributors discuss geographical variations in treatment for each type of tumor. Excellent full-colour pictures and detailed line drawings illustrate all aspects of managing childhood tumors, including technical details of operation which are often neglected in other texts. This comprehensive book provides a contemporary approach for pediatric, general and urological surgeons dealing with childhood tumors. New chapters in this second edition provide the latest developments and strategies in pediatric surgical oncology. |

Publisher: Wiley-Interscience | 2007-10-22 | 1616 pages | ISBN: 0470058307 | 10.04 MB The Handbook for Statistical Genetics is widely regarded as the reference work in the field. However, the field has developed considerably over the past three years. In particular the modeling of genetic networks has advanced considerably via the evolution of microarray analysis. As a consequence the 3rd edition of the handbook contains a much expanded section on Network Modeling, including 5 new chapters covering metabolic networks, graphical modeling and inference and simulation of pedigrees and genealogies. Other chapters new to the 3rd edition include Human Population Genetics, Genome-wide Association Studies, Family-based Association Studies, Pharmaco genetics, Epi genetics, Ethic and Insurance. As with the second Edition, the Handbook includes a glossary of terms, acronyms and abbreviations, and features extensive cross-referencing between the chapters, tying the different areas together. With heavy use of up-to-date examples, real-life case studies and references to web-based resources, this continues to be must-have reference in a vital area of research. Edited by the leading international authorities in the field. |

| |
ISBN: 1402062052 | 160 pages | PDF | 972 KB GENETIC DEMOCRACY involves an in-depth analysis of the ethical, social and philosophical issues related to modern genetic research and gene technology. The aim of the book is to introduce systematic research on the social and ethical impacts of the use and development of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) as well as the acquisition, use and storage of human genetic information (HGI). The book contributes into enhancing public discussion and reaching fair and democratic decision-making practices in GMO and HGI use and development both on local and global level. There are currently few European texts which address the issues involved in a theoretical and systematical manner. GENETIC DEMOCRACY have been written from the viewpoint of social and political philosophy rather than that of traditional bioethics. There is a clear need for a throughout and authoritative philosophical and ethical analysis of the issues involved in genetic research and gene technology. The book will appeal to philosophers, social scientists, genetics professionals, policy makers, academics, industrial organisations and human rights organisations as well as university students and legal scholars. The book will have a broad appeal across Europe, Asia and America since many states are currently considering policy responses to many of the practices discussed in the books (e.g., human biobanks). |

Springer; 1 edition (May 23, 2007) | ISBN: 140205663X | 216 pages | PDF | 1.4 MB This volume reflects on the effects of recent discoveries in genetics on a broad range of scientific fields. In addition to neuroscience, evolutionary biology, anthropology and medicine, contributors analyze the effects of genetics on theories of health, law, epistemology and philosophy of biology. Social and moral concerns about the relationship between genetics, society and the individual also figure prominently. Genetic discoveries fuel central contemporary public policy debates concerning, for example, human cloning, equitable access to healthcare or the role of genetics in medicine. Perhaps more fundamentally, advances in genetics are altering our perception of human life and death. An interview with François Jacob by Anne Fagot-Largeault opens the volume. In this interview, Jacob, who shared a Nobel Prize with André Lwoff and Jacques Monod for their discoveries concerning genetic control of enzyme and virus synthesis, addresses many of the central methodological epistemological and ethical questions covered in the volume. The dynamic interdisciplinary character of this volume makes it relevant to scholars from many disciplines, from biology, philosophy and the social sciences. |
