Time, Space, Stars and Man - 22.4MB Time, Space, Stars and Man: The Story of the Big Bang Michael M. Woolfson 422 pages PDF Publisher: World Scientific Publishing Company (April 2009) Language: English ISBN-10: 1848162723 Most well-read, but non-scientific, people will have heard of the term ' Big Bang' as a description of the origin of the Universe. They will recognize that DNA identifies individuals and will know that the origin of life is one of the great unsolved scientific mysteries. This book brings together all of that material. Starting with the creation of space and time - known as the Big Bang - the book traces causally related steps through the formation of matter, of stars and planets, the Earth itself, the evolution of the Earth's surface and atmosphere, and then through to the beginnings of life and the evolution of man. The material is presented in such a way that an intelligent non-scientist can comprehend it, without using formulae or equations but still preserving the integrity of the involved science. This book does not solve the mysteries of what initiated the Big Bang or how life evolved from inanimate matter, but it does make clear the nature of those problems. The reader will be left with a sense of wonderment that he or she actually exists! |

#20: Movie » TV Shows : WWE Championship - Triple H Vs The Great Khali at SummerSlam |
| |
| The Author: anil528 | 20 April 2009 | Views: 2281 |
| |
That was the explicit acronym that I am sure popped into every wrestling fan's head after The Great Khali won the Biggest Blockbuster of the Summer Battle Royal to earn a WWE title shot at Summerslam next month. Yes, it was Khali, not Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, Big Show, Montel Vontavious Porter, or the ever so popular, Jeff Hardy. The Great Khali's win and title shot may not be very popular with fans, but I can't blame them. After all, Khali is not exactly the Dean Malenko of the squared circle. Triple vs. The Great Khali can make or break Smackdown's crowded main event/upper midcard right now. On one hand, Triple H winning at Summerslam would be a nice win, but extremely predictable. The Game has not exactly been booked as a human being the last few months, but rather more like The Terminator with a lot more charisma. |

#24: E-Books : Bad Money by Kevin Phillips (AUDIOBOOK) |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 29 January 2009 | Views: 878 |
| |
"Bad Money" is about the insecurity of America's future given a debt-gorged financial sector, and vulnerability caused by expensive dependence on imported oil. The term refers not just to the depreciated dollar but also dangerous attitudes and flawed financial products. Kevin Phillips dedicates his latest insightful work of political and economic history to his grandson. It's a fitting tribute since, by the author's reckoning, the aforementioned young man might be well into his forties, and the U.S. deeply into its post-imperial senescence, by the time the mischief explained in the pages of Bad Money is fully digested by the earth's economic system. Instead of reflecting upon and compensating for the turn to an unprecedented expansion of finance capitalism that today supersedes manufacturing in this nation by at least six percent of GDP, Wall Street, our empire's "coliseum," chose instead to gamble upon the promulgation of an unregulated class of investments known as derivatives, the size and scope of which, particularly in terms of their capacity to hedge against risk, could only be guessed at. So much for the efficacy of market deregulation. Through his incisive and perceptive use of charts and tables, and,in his exceptionally clear narrative, Phillips makes the case that our government lies to itself as well as us. Now, American have fifty trillion dollars in debt. |

#26: E-Books : A Farewell to Alms by Gregory Clark |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 13 January 2009 | Views: 594 |
| |
As absorbing, as memorable and as well written as Mr Diamond's remarkable bestseller. It deserves to be as widely read. Clark amasses an extraordinary collection of historical data to explain why the Industrial Revolution was born in western Europe. He arguments hinge on extensive archival research on the wills of medieval Englishmen. A Farewell to Alms asks the right questions, and it is full of fascinating details. And suggests that much of the world's remaining poverty is semi-permanent. This is a bold attempt at explaining why some countries are richer than others. Clark's idea-rich book may just prove to be the next blockbuster in economics. He offers us a daring story of the economic foundations of good institutions and the climb out of recurring poverty. We may not have cracked the mystery of human pro gress, but A Farewell to Alms brings us closer than before. We may not have cracked the mystery of human pro gress, but A Farewell to Alms brings us closer than before. Right or wrong, or perhaps somewhere in between, Clark's is about as stimulating an account of world economic history as one is likely to find. Let's hope that the human traits to which he attributes economic pro gress are acquired, not genetic, and that the countries that grow in population over the next 50 years turn out to be good at imparting them. Alternatively, we can simply hope he's wrong. |

#27: E-Books : Someone Will Make Money on Your Funds - Why Not You by Gary L. Gastineau |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 3 January 2009 | Views: 631 |
| |
This book is a treasure trove of practical research and pithy thoughts based on Gastineau's decades of experience; a valuable guide for the thoughtful investor. It will jar armchair mutual fund investors out of their PJ's. If you think checking out your funds in Morningstar and Lipper has you covered, you best read this book. This book is a must-read for fund investors. Gastineau carefully discusses many important factors such as taxes, capital gains overhang, trading costs, turnover, benchmark selection, active management, expense ratio, and ag gressive trading by market timers. These factors significantly affect fund performance but may be ignored by investors. Gastineau goes on to build a strong case for choosing ETFs over mutual funds, especially for long-term investors. Gastineau's message is very powerful. He not only challenges some conventional wisdom on investing, but truly emphasizes how to add value to a portfolio. What is unique is his ability to move quickly from the big picture to implementation strategies offering investment solutions to both investment advisors and individual investors. Portfolio adjustments discussed can potentially have significant impact on a long-term investor's standard of living. This is not a typical investment book. While it covers critical investment and planning topics, it focuses on providing a unique, effective approach to picking mutual funds and ETFs. It is written for investors who want to own funds that turn away market timers, operate efficiently, and deliver solid returns. |

#29: E-Books : The New Reality of Wall Street by Donald Coxe |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 28 December 2008 | Views: 644 |
| |
While the author from NV makes a point about the Harris Insight yearly underperformance, Mr. Coxe's performance has beaten the SP over the last three years by 680 basis points annualized. This is a superior book, because of the style of thinking. Typical investors, like the individual from NV, or the herd, think in a conformed fashion and Mr. Coxe takes us out of the conformity and allows us independent thought. He also does a great job explaining what external influences on the market are, the important roles they play( things like eurodollars, central banks, world economies, etc.), and what happens when markets go down or sideways for an extended period of time. This book is explains the Big Picture of global markets and how an individual investor can use a broader understanding of markets to manage a personal investment portfolio. Donald Coxe does a great job of explaining how we got to where we are today. But the best thing is that he offers intelligent, witty insight into what investors should do next. At a time when most investing guides are offering bubblegum advice in a pop psychology wrapper, ths book is a breath of fresh air. |

#30: E-Books : A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton G. Malkiel |
| |
| The Author: ompeompe | 25 December 2008 | Views: 1224 |
| |
It draws on behavioral finance, the field that studies the psychology of investment decisions, here is the best-selling, authoritative, and gimmick-free guide to investing. Burton G. Malkiel evaluates the full range of investment opportunities from stocks, bonds, and money markets to real estate investment trusts and insurance, home ownership, and tangible assets such as gold and collectibles. This book includes new strategies for rearranging your portfolio for retirement along with the book's classic life-cycle guide to investing, which matches the needs of investors in any age bracket. A Random Walk Down Wall Street long ago established itself as a must-read, the first book to purchase before starting a portfolio, and it remains the best investing guide money can buy. This is a classic book, first published in 1973, with 416 pages publish by W. W. Norton, In December 24, 2007 this book has been released 9 edition. Every investor, whether you believe in market efficiency or not, should read this book at least once. This book does a very good job reconciling between market efficiency and perceived inefficiencies such as bubbles at different times. The author believes in a weak form of efficient market theory. Simply put, the market may not be perfectly efficient at all times, but it's efficient enough to make it very difficult and costly trying to beat it. In the end, an investor is better off holding a market index fund that invests in everything under the sun. It's not worth the cost and effort trying to find the undervalued stocks or high-growth mutual funds. |
