A glimpse of the future, and not because of its huge influence and umpteen million sales. The poor-little-rich-boy protest "Out ta Get Me" intimates that Axl Rose's egotism and martyr complex were soon to grow bigger than his head; still, Appetite's night-train wreck of punk and metal sounds and sensibilities make it more than just an emblem of its time.

Whether GN'R are dancing with Mr. Brownstone, penning a callow kiss-off letter to some chick named Michelle, or passing out on somebody else's sofa, this was and remains a savage journey to the heart of the American--or at least the Hollywood--dream.

APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION was a shot in the arm for the sorry state of hard rock in the 80's. All the other big bands of the era were more into looks than music, while the musically sound bands didnt get their due. WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE kicks off the album and it is an angry tribute to life in LA and breaking into the music business. ITS SO EASY is another hard rockin song that keeps the listener intensely hook into this record. NIGHTRAIN is a straight ahead in your face rock song that just blows you away

Led Zeppelin II is the second album released by Led Zeppelin in 1969. Here they further developed ideas established on their debut album, creating a work which became even more widely acclaimed and arguably more influential.

The finished tracks reflect the raw, evolving sound of the band and their innovations as live performers. It has been suggested that Led Zeppelin II largely writes the blueprint for 1970s hard rock. Blues-derived songs like "Whole Lotta Love", "Heartbreaker", "The Lemon Song" and "Bring It On Home" are now standards of the genre, where the guitar-based riff (rather than vocal chorus or verses) defines the song and provides the key hook. Such arrangements and emphasis were at the time atypical in popular music. As such, the album is generally considered to be very influential on the development of rock music, being an early forerunner of heavy metal, and inspiring a host of other rock bands including Van Halen and Guns N' Roses.

Led Zeppelin II also experimented with other musical styles and approaches, as on the alternately soft-and-loud "What Is and What Should Never Be" and "Ramble On" (which featured Page's acoustic guitar), or the pop-influenced ballad "Thank You". With its mysterious atmospherics, "Ramble On" helped develop hard rock's association with fantasy themes, which had partly derived from the psychedelic rock of two to three years before, but also from lyricist Robert Plant's personal interest in the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien. This direction would later culminate on Led Zeppelin's untitled fourth album (and countless subsequent groups would later carry the influence to further extremes). Conversely, the instrumental "Moby Dick" features an extended drum solo by John Bonham, which would later be extended to a half-hour or more in live Led Zeppelin concert performances.

Andy Williams scored different kinds of hits at different periods in his career. In the 1950s, he had a handful of Top Ten pop hits in styles ranging from light rock & roll to Hawaiian music. In the 1960s, he made a transition to big ballads, many of them movie themes, and as a result was among the top album and easy-listening artists of the decade. Closeted over all these years, the Vatican has finally announced that it likes the Beatles.The announcement was spurred by the 40th anniversary of the White Album, dubbed a "magical musical anthology" by the paper's editors. While the article isn't the White Album's first review in Latin - it's probably the first Beatles review in a publication whose motto is about vanquishing the forces of hell.

It wasn't always thus. In 1966 the Church was incensed when John Lennon called his band "more popular than Jesus". "Christianity will go," Lennon told London's Evening Standard. "It will vanish and shrink ... Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me."

When it comes to other acts - the Stones, or Coldplay - the Vatican's editors were not so generous. The Beatles were praiseworthy, because they differed from the "standardised, stereotypical" music that haunts contemporary society. In other words, Pope Benedict XVI has heard the new Guns N' Roses album.

Use Your Illusion II is a shining example of a suddenly successful band getting it all wrong and letting its ambitions run wild.
