The Riff by Riff Series is intended to allow guitarists or bassists the chance to learn the most important riffs from their favorite artists' songs. This is exactly what Mark Phillips and Cherry Lane make possible in this great book. It includes all of the main riffs ( rythm tracks, mainly) from Kill 'em All to The Black Album in Play-It-Like-It-Is format. So for introductory players or pros, wheather your tonking out "The Four Hosemen" or ripping through "Blackened", Metallica: Riff by Riff is the book for you! This book has music and tabs for every song by Metallica through the Black Album. It includes most of the rhythm riffs from those songs and in very few cases, a few solo bars. Advanced guitarists should look into the "Play it like it is" books because they contain entire songs, and not just 2-page rhythm examples Hammett was invited to join Metallica following the dismissal of the band's original lead guitarist Dave Mustaine in 1983. This was prior to the release of Kill 'Em All. At the time Hammett was taking private guitar lessons from the now-famous Joe Satriani. Hammett has written and contributed riffs for Metallica songs since the mid-1980s (particularly in the 1990s during the Load era). One of these riffs, used in "Enter Sandman", was written in a hotel room at 3:15 am, and became one of Metallica's most popular songs. It was the first track and first single on Metallica's self-titled "Black Album" and was ranked 399th on Rolling Stones list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. The bridge for "Creeping Death" was originally an Exodus riff that Hammett took with him to Metallica. |

#10: Music » Music Video : G3: Live in Concert |

G3: Live in Concert is a live album by the G3 project, led by Joe Satriani. It was released in 1997 by Epic Records. This lineup of G3 includes Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Steve Vai. In 2005, a DVD of this concert was also released. On G3 Live three of the most talented electric guitar players of all-time come together for a video that sizzles with creative synergy. Out of the three pieces they play together, their version of RED HOUSE is awesome! The three blend and complement one another nicely, beginning with a classic blues opening and gradually building in intensity. the song is extended to include a solo by each of the three after each verse, and to close it out they trade eights- (one guitar plays a riff and the next one responds), finishing strong with a great ending. Hendrix would have been proud and probably impressed by this fine rendition. The only liability with their cover of RED HOUSE is Eric Johnson's drab singing, but then again- when you listen, you will be so amazed by the guitar work that Roseanne Barr could be singing, and it would still sound pretty darn good! But seriously, it is an awesome album, that gives an excellent taste of some of the best work of these three- check it out! |

#11: Music » Music Video : STEVE VAI - For The Love of GOD |

"SHUT UP – WE KNOW YOU CAN PLAY!” This is a Video instruction how to play "For The Love of God" note by note in PASSION AND WARFARE Album Widely acclaimed as his best album, Passion and Warfare finds Steve Vai coming into his own as a composer, as well as bypassing vocals almost entirely. His style isn't quite as derivative of influences Frank Zappa and Joe Satriani as it was six years earlier on Flex-able; while some of Vai's sense of humor is still evident on tracks like the cock rock strut of "The Audience Is Listening," it is mostly replaced by a spiritual reflectiveness on ballads like "For the Love of God" and "Blue Powder" and dignified, committed rockers like "I Would Love To" and "Liberty." Vai is a more distinguished composer than most of his guitar-shredder contemporaries, and rather than simply showing off his technique, he isn't afraid to experiment or take chances in his playing. Thus, Passion and Warfare is arguably the richest and best hard rock guitar-virtuoso album of the '80s. Steve Vai (SV) took time out from talking to muso mags to shoot the breeze with me backstage at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 4 June 1997. Mike Keneally (MK) also joined us on the fat floating sofa in Steve’s dressing room. |

#12: Music : JOE SATRIANI - Not of This Earth (Remastered 2008, TAB GUITARS+MP3) |

This album was released on CD for the first time 1988 and was re-issued numerous times in different covers and labels. In 2008, Epic Records releseased with Joe Satriani Original Album Classics box set; And this still a good album all of the time. The Relativity Records version is now out of print. Not of This Earth is the first full album by instrumental rock solo artist Joe Satriani. Numerous tracks off this album are still played live by Satriani. The original artwork used for the first pressing of this album has been lost, and has since been replaced with the artwork shown. Also noteworthy, the guitar Joe is pictured with on the cover (an Ibanez 540P), was never actually used by Joe, and rather was "a promo shot that got too much press" according to SatrianiAnyone listening at the time will now be aware of Satriani's virtuosic skill; even for a debut his impressive guitar work was complimented with radio-friendly melodies and heavy riffs. It seems like a promising start, The Snake plays a funk-style bass-line with jazz percussion. On the first listen, it seems strange to think that there would be any solo, let a lone shred on this track, although it is pulled off well despite the already tiresome synthesisers on the album. A few features distinguish this album from his others. Electronic drums are used throughout, instead of Satriani's usual acoustic drums. The first track "Not of This Earth" utilizes an unusual compositional technique he titles "Pitch Axis Theory", which consists of shifting modes underneath a pedal tone. "The Headless Horseman" is a piece performed entirely by left and right-handed finger tapping. Tags: JOE SATRIANI |

If your a fan of shread guitar, or guitar in general, and you are looking for a challange, but cool stuff to play, here it is. I strongly suggest you hear and read this tab instead of getting tabs off the internet, this tab is 100% accurate and has additional info on how to play a song. Great for reserch on how to play Joe's style. Great Album and Great Book to help you play along. The songs are fairly straightforward compared to some of the other Albums. The focus on this album is using Scales/Modes to represent an emotional theme, but don't worry their are plenty of mind boggling licks that will tear your hand up if your not ready. Breaks no new ground, relying instead on signature power ballads, big-hearted anthems, and crunching rockers. . . . Satriani is an old-fashioned guitar hero, an antic wailer, and a romantic at heart. . . . "Crystal Planet" is not just the title for this album; it defines Satriani's homeland, and as intergalactic emissary, this is a gift from the race of superior alien musicians he personifies. There is literally nothing like it on earth. And if you're thinking that only a guitar player can enjoy an album like this, which is void of lyrics, sung or spoken, think again. |

No doubt about it. Sammy puts on the best live shows ever, but most of his success is from his old stuff. The two songs with Neil Schon jam big time and riff master Billy Duffy (The Cult) churns out another one on Loud! Overall, the cd is very solid and Sammy's voice just gets better with age. Is this guy really in his 60's? Sammy Hagar is still THE RED ROCKER, with this new cd he is doing a great job at it. LYRICS? Who listens to Sammy for his lyrics anyway. LISTEN TO HIS VOICE! this one just simply ROCKS! This albumn really does rock, is really an excellent tune! The song that completely tune LOUD The Red Rocker has been pretty consistent since leaving Van Halen back in 1996, releasing a new album every few years. For the most part they've been pretty good; even if they weren't classics there'd be at least a couple of songs fans of old-school 70s/80s rock would like. The hard-rocking "Ten 13" (2000) and the Jimmy Buffet-esque "Livin' it Up" (2006) were especially good. After parting ways with vocalist DAVID LEE ROTH, the remaining members of the band Van Halen contacted many potential replacements. Given Eddie's appreciation of Montrose and his car mechanic's suggestion, the band auditioned and quickly hired Hagar to fill the opening. With Hagar at the front, VAN HALEN produced four multi-platinum, |

The album Reload is essentially the tracks that were not finished from the Load sessions, at the time the band had planned to make Load a double album but after a lengthy stay in the studio they decided to split it up over two albums. The band insisted that these weren’t Load rejects and claimed that these songs were of a more extreme nature either heavier or mellower that needed more time spent so they decided to leave them for this album. Kicking off with the bombastic Fuel, the album immediately announces itself as a “don’t fuck with this” type of affair. Memory bares another side of the met with an interesting choice of guest vocals by Marianne faithful (renowned for her escapades involving Mick Jagger and a mars bar!!) that offset the often-unrealised heaviness and greatness of the song. Devils Dance is a mother of a song, with a bass heavy grove underlying the entire journey with monstrous vocals throughout. Up next we have an astonishing ballad in the form of the Unforgiven II, more than a reworking of the original with a character of its own whilst still being underpinned with the melody of the first from the Black Album. This track is immensely deep and powerful, an awesome track, and in an equal for the already acclaimed Unforgiven released some six years previous to this offering. |
