PDF |4.48 MB |433 Page Most senior students who supervised introductory computer science labs at Brock University back when I was there kicked their feet up on the front desk with a calculus book cracked open and growled when their homework was interrupted by a question. As anyone will tell you, I never fit the mold of the typical student. In my first lab, I put together a short booklet covering all the questions I had when I took my first lab in COSC 101; namely what was that funny prompt drawn in flickering green on the ailing terminals and how the heck can you use it to give yourself a cool nickname like VAX Dude in the DEC VMS process? I inadvertently left a pile of my booklets behind and the next day one of the other supervisors stomped up to me and angrily waved one in my face. Her class wanted to know why she hadn’t covered any of the material in the booklet. Doing an introductory lesson in shell usage in the first lab would have cut into her homework time, and I had better make sure it did not happen again. It didn’t, and my lab students gained about a three-week advantage over the others in view of the fact they didn’t have to learn the development environment piecemeal between assignments. |

#23: Utilities & Drivers » File Management : JAM Software SpaceObServer v4.1.1.355 |

| The Author: imfamous | 29 April 2009 | Views: 268 |
| |
JAM Software SpaceObServer v4.1.1.355 | 7.65 MB SpaceObServer is a powerful and flexible hard disk space manager for Windows. It scans local and network drives using a background service and stores their structure, sizes and properties in an SQL database. Linux and Unix filesystems can be scanned via SSH (Secure Shell). In an Explorer-like user interface the collected data can be viewed and browsed in hierarchical or tabular views, 3D bar, pie, line charts and tree maps. Using the archived data you are able to track the development of the space usage from past to present, and forecast future size usage. A flexible file search, with predefined searches for very big, old or obsolete files allows filtering and listing files directly from the database. A duplicate file search is also included. Main Features• System requirements: Windows 200X/XP/Vista (32 and 64 Bit). • The size of each folder is displayed directly in the file system tree. This way you can easily discover which folders occupy most of your hard disk space. • A background service, the SpaceObServer Agent, regularly scans selected drives and stores the collected data in an SQL database. • Supported databases: MS Access, MS SQL Server 2000/2005, ORACLE 9/10, MySQL or IBM DB2 including the free Express editions. • Scan network drives without the need to install additional software on the servers you want to observe. • By using the NTFS Change Journals SpaceObServer is able to update information about local NTFS drives continuously, which results in disk usage information that is always up to date. |

#27: Internet » Browsers : Microsoft Silverlight 2 2.0.40115.0 GDR1 |

| |
Microsoft Silverlight 2 2.0.40115.0 GDR1 | 5.03 MB Silverlight is essentially nothing more than Microsoft's vision of a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in designed to be the source of rich online user experiences and to dislodge Flash from its current dominant position on the market. And when the Redmond company said cross-platform they indeed meant it. Microsoft revealed that it does not plan to leverage the existing Windows Update infrastructure in order to make available Silverlight to all users of the Windows operating system. Such a move would give Silverlight immediate and total access to an install base close to 1 billion users and will make it just as ubiquitous as Adobe's Flash. Instead the Redmond company has debuted a number of in-house projects to push the technology, as well as tap its partners for support. And in this context, Microsoft announced that "Entertainment Tonight," HSN and World Wrestling Entertainment will all deliver Silverlight content to viewers. In fact, a total of 35 Microsoft partners worldwide have announced their support for Silverlight. |
