The second WASP album, and another incredibly solid effort. If you are a hard rock fan, you must not miss this one. The Last Command is the best W.A.S.P. album, surpassed only by The Headless Children. The sound of the music along with the shrill voice of Blackie Lawless make this an excellent buy for any W.A.S.P. fan. This is true eighties style metal.

Widely acclaimed as his best album, Passion and Warfare finds Steve Vai coming into his own as a composer, as well as bypassing vocals almost entirely. His style isn't quite as derivative of influences Frank Zappa and Joe Satriani as it was six years earlier on Flex-able; while some of Vai's sense of humor is still evident on tracks like the cock rock strut of "The Audience Is Listening," it is mostly replaced by a spiritual reflectiveness on ballads like "For the Love of God" and "Blue Powder" and dignified, committed rockers like "I Would Love To" and "Liberty." Vai is a more distinguished composer than most of his guitar-shredder contemporaries, and rather than simply showing off his technique, he isn't afraid to experiment or take chances in his playing. Thus, Passion and Warfare is arguably the richest and best hard rock guitar-virtuoso album of the '80s.

An amazing work by an amazing musician. A lot of people pigeonhole Steve Vai into being just another guitarist, a relic of the shred-happy '80s. But take another listen. Forget his stints in Alcatrazz and Whitesnake, forget that ridiculous triple-necked heart guitar that backed David Lee Roth, and listen to Vai's own music, made on his own terms. Yes, he is an incredibly talented guitarist, but he's also much more, a true modern-day composer.

No matter how off-the-wall his songs seem, there's an amazing musical quality and deep spirituality that underscores every note in his truly amazing body of work.

The first phase is pure magic, especially the Fire Garden Suite. His lyrics are a little corny in some of the tracks in phase 2, but his voice, while not the most beautiful in the world, fits every song perfectly. In closing, this is an amazing album in both its scope and its execution, giving the listener a glimpse at the many sides of Steve Vai, the man.

No doubt about it. Sammy puts on the best live shows ever, but most of his success is from his old stuff. The two songs with Neil Schon jam big time and riff master Billy Duffy (The Cult) churns out another one on Loud! Overall, the cd is very solid and Sammy's voice just gets better with age. Is this guy really in his 60's?

The Red Rocker has been pretty consistent since leaving Van Halen back in 1996, releasing a new album every few years. This is the first Maiden album after Di'anno left them, holds great nostalgic value...

This album was when Maiden was a lot tougher and more criminal, a flawless classic Iron Maiden album with the whole band in top form and giving one of the best performances of their lives. Di'Anno's vocals especially stand out here.

"Killers" is a metal classic, it's certainly a worthy addition to your collection.

THE BAND: Steve Harris (bass), Paul Di'Anno (vocals), Dave Murray (guitar), Adrian Smith (guitar), Clive Burr (drums), 11 tracks clocking in at approximately 42 minutes. All songs written by bassist Steve Harris and sharing credits with Murray and Di'Anno on one song each.

The best of the two albums with DiAnno. With Adrian Smith joining the band one hears the great fusion of musical talent with Dave Murray making the band one of the best in having essentially two lead guitars. Just a great collaboration between the two guitarists. Better musically and lyricall than their starter album, this album has some great songs such as 'Wrath Child' and 'Killers.' 'Prodigal Son' has to be one of the greatest rock ballads of British New Wave metal: great lyrics and just an excellent instrumental arrangement.

This two-disc retrospective traces the Canadian bard's musical maturity from poet and novelist who sang a little to multidimensional artist whose oracular vocals and increasingly rich arrangements are every bit as compelling as his verse. Even when Cohen came to prominence through the 1960s songcraft of "Suzanne" and "Bird on a Wire," the "folksinger" tag never really fit. Later highlights ranging from the deadpan drollery of "Tower of Song" and "Everybody Knows" to the apocalyptic anthemry of "First We Take Manhattan" and "Democracy" suggest that other labels might be more appropriate: cabaret surrealist, spiritual gadfly, sensual prophet, agent provocateur. Cohen chose the selections, drawing more than half of the 31 tracks from three landmark albums--his 1967 debut Songs of Leonard Cohen, 1988's I'm Your Man, and 1992's The Future--along with four from 2001's Ten New Songs. The collection justifies its title as deep as it goes, though it's a shame that Cohen's commercial profile couldn't justify the more elaborate box set his artistry warrants (one that would at least include lyrics and musician credits). Those who sample the consistently inspired music here might come to the conclusion that everything Cohen records is essential.

Sheryl Crow's first studio album in four years shows a woman if not on the verge of a nervous breakdown, then one who has gone a little off the rails and is in the process of pulling herself back on track again. For her past three studio albums, Crow has been known as the quintessential party girl who liked a beer buzz in the morning, but C'mon, C'mon shows her to be much more than that. Breakup, illness, and loss have tempered her good-time persona, and like other life-altering events, both her character and lyrics are stronger for it. This latest offering might not break any new musical ground--again relying on her retooling of '70s country rock--but she displays an honesty and naked vulnerability not witnessed in her earlier work, honing her pain to a fine, lyrical edge. The brooding "Weather Channel" shows a rawboned Crow unafraid to display her emotional bruising, but without losing any of her sly wit: "Just a pill to make me happy / I know it may not fix the hinges, but at least the door has stopped its creaking." Besides songs reflecting her newfound poignancy are a couple of swaggering rockers that recall middle-period Stones, including "You're an Original," featuring Lenny Kravitz, the whimsical and insouciant "Steve McQueen," which finds Crow boasting "I ain't taking sh*t off of no one," and the deceptively frothy "Soak Up the Sun," which features the long missing-in-action Liz Phair on background vocals. In addition to resurrecting Phair, Crow also has compiled a paparazzo's dream, soliciting the vocal talents of pals Stevie Nicks, Natalie Maines , Emmylou Harris, Don Henley, and inexplicably, the actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
