Battlestrike Force Of Resistance (2008)It is September, 1943. The armies of the 3rd Reich occupy virtually the entire territory of Europe. The lands taken by the Germans spread from Brest, a town on the western brink of the continent, to the suburbs of Stalingrad. Numerous resistance groups operate in the occupied regions of Europe. Using the tactics of surprise attacks and the support from local people, they can effectively confront much larger, better-equipped and trained troops of the enemy. The British government dispatches one of its best commandos to the Central Europe. Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus are the countries where the resistance movements are most active. The Englishman's tasks involve training and support for local guerrilla fighters in the most daring sabotage and diversion actions. Among others, you will embark on typical missions like blowing up bridges, assaults on enemy convoys to stack up necessary ammo and weapons. The player will also participate in a bank robbery, and last but not least -- destroy a legendary facility producing V2 rockets! |

Lawrence Holland is the highly praised creator of the Star Wars flying games X-Wing and Tie Fighter, in addition to the World War II-based Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (SWOL). Holland again uses his creative genius to devise another great-playing flight title to add to both his and LucasArts’ game hangar with the release of Secret Weapons over Normandy (SWON), the follow-up to SWOL. The campaign mode of SWON has you, pilot James Chase, joining the ranks of a secret military flying squadron fighting the evil empire of Adolph Hitler and his Third Reich Nazi war machine and the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II. You can pilot over 20 authentic WWII flying crafts from both the Allied and Axis powers that helped shape the history of the 20th Century. SWON also takes you to real sky and sea theaters of battle that were actually fought. You really do get drawn into the well-crafted story of the campaign mode, too. As the newest recruit to the secret Allied squadron, you are joined by members of each of the Allied nation’s air forces in your battles: American, British, and Russian. SWON doesn’t resort to the old unrealistic “everybody speaks English” tactic that many World War II-based movies and games fall back on. Instead, when the Japanese pilots are talking in both the level introductory cut-scenes and the actual missions, you hear Japanese (with subtitles) and the same goes for the German pilots and your Russian allies also. |

Publisher: Facts on File, Incorporated Pub. Date: October 2007 ISBN-13: 9780791095140 One of three countries that make up the island of Great Britain, England is among the oldest continually existing states in the world. Since Athelstan of Wessex united England as a single kingdom in the tenth century A.D., this northwestern European country has played a prominent rote in world affairs. Much of England's fortune can be attributed to the fact that it has not been invaded by a foreign country since 1066. In repelling such European military threats as the Spanish Armada in 1588 and the German Luftwaffe more than three-and-a-half centuries later, England has been able to preserve its unique character. Moreover, English culture has spread well beyond the shores of the British Isles. During the height of the British Empire, in the nineteenth century, English influence reached every corner of the globe: from Canada in North America to Hong Kong in East Asia, and from India in South Asia to Nigeria in Africa. Around the same time, England became the epicenter of the Industrial Revolution, which ensured that English manufactured goods dominated the global market. |
