: 1![]() "Painotarium: Piano Tribute to Metallica" is Scott D. Davis’ fourth solo piano recording, and this time he dives head first into the heavy side of his musical personality. The album features Davis’ own arrangements of classic Metallica tunes from their albums "Ride the Lightning" (1984) through "Load" (1996). While the concept of a tribute album is nothing new, it’s something that can often backfire. “I knew I was on dangerous ground when I decided to tackle this album.” says Davis. “I realized that a number of ingredients would have to be just right if this was going to work.” As someone who’s been playing air guitar to Metallica’s songs for years, he let his love and respect for the original performances guide the process. This is an awesome album. You will hear the lyrics in your head while listening. Just totally rocking metallica on the piano. Absolutly perferct interpretation! : 1![]() "SHUT UP – WE KNOW YOU CAN PLAY!” This is a Video instruction how to play "For The Love of God" note by note in PASSION AND WARFARE Album Widely acclaimed as his best album, Passion and Warfare finds Steve Vai coming into his own as a composer, as well as bypassing vocals almost entirely. His style isn't quite as derivative of influences Frank Zappa and Joe Satriani as it was six years earlier on Flex-able; while some of Vai's sense of humor is still evident on tracks like the cock rock strut of "The Audience Is Listening," it is mostly replaced by a spiritual reflectiveness on ballads like "For the Love of God" and "Blue Powder" and dignified, committed rockers like "I Would Love To" and "Liberty." Vai is a more distinguished composer than most of his guitar-shredder contemporaries, and rather than simply showing off his technique, he isn't afraid to experiment or take chances in his playing. Thus, Passion and Warfare is arguably the richest and best hard rock guitar-virtuoso album of the '80s. Steve Vai (SV) took time out from talking to muso mags to shoot the breeze with me backstage at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 4 June 1997. Mike Keneally (MK) also joined us on the fat floating sofa in Steve’s dressing room. Author: Marcus1989 | 8 September 2008 |
: 3![]() Contemplative and elegiac, this score for Jet Li's martial-arts movie is light years away from your usual Hollywood action music--even when the pace picks up, it remains evocative and elegant, with a tinge of underlying melancholy. For this we have to thank Japanese composer Shigeru Umebayashi (formerly of the rock band EX), who also gave us marvelous scores for Wong Kar-wai's In the Mood for Love and Zhang Yimou's House of Flying Daggers. Here he relies on roiling percussion, ethereal choirs, and Japanese and Chinese flutes to suggest both the 19th-century setting of the film and an end-of-an-era mood. Look for "Habanera" from Carmen buried toward the end, performed by Japanese soprano Michiko Hayashi and--befitting such a relatively pared-down album--a lone piano. Genre: Soundtrack Release Date: September 5, 2006 Composer: Shigeru Umebayashi Released By: Lakeshore Records Format: MP3 Bitrate: 320 KBPS Number Of Tracks: 36 Time: 1:06:52 Size: 160 MB Author: ompeompe | 2 July 2008 |
: 4![]() Erase the Slate!!! There couldn't be a more fitting title for the latest Dokken album, one that marks a welcome return to the sound they're known for, after the alternative sounds of their last album , and features the debut of new guitarist Reb Beach (ex-Winger, Alice Cooper). Being a huge fan of George Lynch's guitar expertise, but as soon as the opening title cut came blasting through the speakers there was no doubt this was a keeper, a high energy collecton full of strong melodies and harmonies, excellent guitar work (Reb's apparently been restrained in the past, because he really lets loose here -- check out his work on 'Drown'), Don's strongest vocals in years and most importantly, the sound of a relaxed band enjoying what they're doing, an element that's been missing for a long time, due to the everpresent internal tensions. Erase the Slate marks the return of the Dokken you know and love. Here's the track review: 1. Erase The Slate - Classic Dokken. This Killer tune opens the album with good Rokken Fashion. Reminiscent of Tooth And Nails, this one says Reb Beach all over it. Check out the KILLER solo... 'nuff said. 2. Change The World - A hook-filled tune that features the classic Don Dokken growls as well as two awesome shred solos. 3. Maddest Hatter - The 1st single is not only very catchy, it's one of the best Dokken songs ever. You'll be humming the chorus the minute after you've heard it. It's classic Dokken, yer very innovative. It's like In My Dreams mixed with Too High To Fly. Check out (Wild) Mick Brown's incredible drum fills, and once again Reb Beach shines. |
