The Fundamentals of Illustration - AVA Publishing / 2005 Illustration is a dirty word, or at least was until recently. Neither truly accepted by the art establishment nor the design industry, illustration has battled on regardless. Derided as whimsical by artists and arty by designers, illustration had found itself existing in a no-manÕs-land between the two. In education the discipline has fared no better - rarely given more than just studio space, the student illustrator has learnt to bend the rules and break across borders to gain access to facilities and equipment to facilitate their work. So life as an illustrator is not for the faint-hearted, it takes massive determination to face the demands and rigours of a career choice that can feel vastly unsupported, but against these odds the discipline has mounted an impressive return to form. How and why? According to The National Museum of Illustration in Rhode Island, USA, 'Illustrators combine personal expression with pictorial representation in order to convey ideasÕ - a useful description certainly, but one that falls short of fully capturing the essence of what the subject is or has been about. Describing the 'golden eraÕ, when magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post scoured the studios for great illustrators, Steven Heller the design writer and art director stated that 'Illustration was the peopleÕs artÕ. A sentiment echoed by the National Museum of Illustration - 'illustration serves as a reservoir of our social and cultural historyÕ, even going onto state - 'Illustration is therefore, a significant and enduring art formÕ. |

#8: Music : Pink Floyd - Echoes: The Best Of Pink Floyd (2001) |

| |
MP3 | 2 Discs (13+13) | 128 KBPS | Covers Included | Genre: Progressive Rock | 141 MB Echoes is a double-CD collection of some of Pink Floyd's best songs. It's also a fascinating document of the band's history. They began life as Syd Barrett's phantasmagoric plaything before clasping the wings of Icarus and ascending toward the sun on an epic space-rock odyssey, eventually turning left once they reached the dark side of the moon and burning up on reentry, crash-landing on every earthlings' home hi-fi. And it's all here--30 years of the Floyd's awesome back catalog trimmed down to two handsome CDs. It's worth remembering that, despite a fondness for pyrotechnics, Pink Floyd were never a prog-rock band. Sure, some of their songs are a bit long, and they never released singles (at least not for 11 years), but the same could be said for Led Zeppelin. Clinically devoid of the faux-classical overtures and vainglorious musicianship of that era, Pink Floyd were a pole apart; Meddle's epic maritime tone poem "Echoes" remains the Floyd's apogee. But here, on this collection, "the albatross" which "hangs motionless upon the air" has had its wings clipped--seven full minutes are missing, but you'd never be able to tell. The sonar bleeps, the screeching seagulls, the howling winds are all retained, and whoever wielded the editorial axe, Eugene, did so carefully. |

#9: Music : Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (1975) |

MP3 | 05 Tracks | ~320 KBPS | Genre: Progressive Rock | 63 MB Wish You Were Here is a song cycle dedicated to Pink Floyd's original frontman, Syd Barrett, who'd flamed out years before: two grimly funny songs about the evils of the music business ("By the way, which one's Pink?"), and two long, touching ones about the band's vanished friend. The real star of the show, though, is the production: sparkling, convoluted, designed to sound deeply oh-wow under the influence--and pretty great sober too--with David Gilmour getting lots of space for his most lyrical guitar playing ever. And, though the album ibig and ambitious, even ombastic, it somehow dodges being pretentious--the Barrett tributes are honest and heartfelt, beneath all the grand gestures and stereophonic trickery. Tracklist: 1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond I (13:34) 2. Welcome To The Machine (7:29) 3. Have A Cigar (5:24) 4. Wish You Were Here (5:17) 5. Shine On You Crazy Diamond II (12:24) |

#10: Music : Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973) |

MP3 | 09 Tracks | 320 KBPS | Covers Included | Genre: Progressive Rock | 92 MB Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band. Tracklist:01 - Speak To Me - Breathe 04:00 02 - On The Run 03:37 03 - Time 07:07 04 - The Great Gig In The Sky 04:49 05 - Money 06:24 06 - Us And Them 07:52 07 - Any Colour You Like 03:28 08 - Brain Damage 03:53 09 - Eclipse 02:01 |

#13: Music : Pink Floyd - The Complete Zabriskie Point Sessions |
 |
| |
| The Author: CaseMan | 4 August 2008 | Views: 3074 |

|
| |
mp3 Format | 128 kbps | 70 MB This is an amazing album containing 15 outtakes from the famous sessions for the Antonioni cult classic. After recording for several days, only three songs ended up on the official soundtrack. Over the years several outtakes appeared on dubious and soundwise poor bootlegs. In 1997 a revised edition of Zabriskie Point was released, including four previously unreleased Floyd takes. But there was more, much more as this release proves. No less than fifteen outtakes you never heard before in this quality or in any quality! |
