Like FireRed and LeafGreen could link up with Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald to complete the Pokedex by trading regionally-exclusive Pokemon, HeartGold and SoulSilver can link up with Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum to obtain Pokemon unavailable in Johto and Kanto, such as Starly.
