This is one of those rare and unsettling examples of a rock film which has the all the immediacy of reportage from a distant war-zone. The terrain is Olympic Studios in London in June 1968, where the Rolling Stones, recovering from the critical mauling of At Their Satanic Majesty's Request, are at work on the tracks that would become Beggars' Banquet.

The film-maker was Jean-Luc Godard, at the height of his reputation as Europe's most daring director. Godard had briefly left Paris for London in the wake of the Paris riots of May '68 with the aim of making a film about art, power and revolution. The Stones, at their most dazzling and Luciferian, were, as Godard saw it, perfect for the role of agents of anarchy in a movie whose stated aim was to 'subvert, ruin and destroy all civilised values'.

For those who are in the dark, King Diamond, who got his start in a band called Mercyful Fate before starting his own self-titled band. King is shrouded in mystery and is the subject of many urban myths that he probably started himself. One "myth" is his claim that he sold his soul to Satan for the gift of seven voices.

King Diamond stated that he does not follow any specific religion, and expressed concern that religion has led so many people to kill and destroy each other. He stated that he cannot comprehend why religion has caused so much death and destruction when it is logically impossible to prove the presence or absence of any god. He states that he has reached a point in his life where he has completely given up believing in anything religious and that he simply does not know what to answer when asked whether he is a Satanist or not

In an interview, King once, ever said:
"Satanism is a lot to do with a life philosophy. There are also the steps of how to perform a ritual. But there too you have to be careful. Not just everybody can do it, you've got to have certain features and abilities so you can release the right energies at the right moment. If you can't do that nothing will come out of it. I've performed Satanic rituals at home, but never on stage...I fully respect that people are different with different views, feelings and needs. If it feels right, do it. I judge people by their personality, not by their religious beliefs....For me the word 'Satan' stands for the powers of the unknown, the powers of darkness, that are all around us which we can use for our or other people's benefit.'"

Piece of Mind is the fourth studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was originally released in 1983 (see 1983 in music) on EMI, and on Capitol in the US; it was reissued later on Sanctuary/Columbia Records. It was the first album to feature drummer Nicko McBrain, who had recently left the Paris-based band Trust.

Other inspirations include "Where Eagles Dare", a film, and a novel by Alistair MacLean; "Quest for Fire", based on the film by Jean-Jacques Annaud; the writer G. K. Chesterton who is quoted at the beginning of "Revelations". More exotic influences include Greek mythology, albeit slightly altered for "Flight of Icarus", and samurai legend Miyamoto Musashi ("Sun and Steel"). Aleister Crowley influenced a good piece of the remaining lyrics of "Revelations," which was written by Dickinson.
