What's stranger than a PlayStation 2 game costarring The Professional's Jean Reno and House of Flying Daggers' Takeshi Kaneshiro that's all about killing hordes of ghoulish samurai monsters? A budget-priced PC port of that same game two years later, coming from a completely different publisher. Ubisoft did the bare minimum in translating Capcom's original PS2 version of Onimusha 3: Demon Siege to the PC, so not even the game's references to the original control scheme have been modified. However, since the underlying source material is great stuff, and since the game still looks good and mostly runs smoothly, this version of Onimusha 3 holds up quite well.

This legend appeared long ago. It goes around from mouth to mouth and no one knows the person who was the first to tell it. The legend says that somewhere in the dark, impassable forests, on the meadow stands a forsaken house where Pumpkin Jack lives. That very Pumpkin Jack who has a holiday pumpkin instead of head! He lives all the near round and never comes out from his dwelling, but ones a year not long before Halloween Pumpkin Jack goes hunting for the souls of dead people! He calls them to his home in order to change his dwelling and to get prepared to the celebration of Halloween. Each year he chooses someone from living people to be his helper who will assist him in this uneasy work. And this time he chooses you!

Ash goes to spend the weekend with his girlfriend but soon finds out that they are not alone and soon finds her possessed by undead spirits. This begins a reign of terror and he has to defend himself against zombies, killer trees, evil spirits and his possessed hand.

Evil Dead 2 is just a completely insane and hilarious film. It's more of a spoof horror film than an attempt at straight, serious horror but this is what makes it so good. Some of the one liners in it are boardering on comedy genious and the special effects and make-up mean the monsters are sweet. It's a very fast paced film with the camera going at a hundred miles an hour, going upside down and shaking all over the place most of the time and there was no let up in either the horror or the comedy. Bruce Campbell gives a great performance.

There are so many good bits in it but I particularly liked the bit where Ash turns into a Commando type guy when he is getting ready for the climatic showdown. The bit near the start where he gets chased from the woods and through the house in double quick time was cool as well. Oh and his chainsaw arm was funny. And the bit with the eyeball. And the Farewell to arms joke. The ending is like a horror version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

The house of the dead is a rather simple game. I don't own the game but the arcade version is easily found. The story is rather simple going into a house swarming with zombies to rescue a loved one, then attempting revenge against the one responsible. The game uses the traditional light gun, a controller used quite often in first person shooters. To reload you have to aim outside the screen and fire.

Several bonuses are hidden throughout the levels, mostly hidden behind crates or other breakable items. The game is unique because of a choosing your own adventure way of playing. By saving certain people or killing certain zombies you can go completely different paths. The paths don't serve anything to the story however, it just allows different exploration. There are four main bosses, each are named after one of the primary tarot fortune telling cards. The graphics are detailed but simple, exact clones appear through out the entire game.
