Windows Wordpad is the basic text editor supplied with all versions of Windows. It is good for quickly editing a simple text document but it does have several limitations.

Wordpad 2009 is a more advanced alternative. It uses the Ribbon interface introduced in Office 2007 as well as tabbed editing. This means that more than one document can be opened at a time. Line numbers are also shown. Less useful for ordinary documents and it's a shame they can't be disabled.

There are a couple of rough edges to Wordpad 2009. It was a little slow when editing big documents. The Font selection does not work as the text selection is not saved.

Even with these problems (which will hopefully be fixed soon), this is an attractive text editor offering plenty of stuff not found in the normal Wordpad in Vista. If you want a ribbon interface on a text editor, this is a good download.
