i don't use any anti-virus, trojan, spyware, worns, etc. i check the files base on what any anti-anything always do.
i do a little of programming, so thats one of my avantages with the checking the files for possibles malicius infections.
the first thing i do is check if the file is packed and i examine the header of the first three strings of the executable file... then i check in what plataform the file was made.
then depending how does the app font look like, i comvert text to hex or hex to text and i search for the unknown font so i can see clear the roots of the string program and that help a lot at the time i starting opening the file when seraching for possible malicius infected files, and must of the time they came with the exact answer as any other anti virus.
i been learning from real anti-virus and anti-spyware one of the must easy to learn from it r anti-spyware, as they show you where exactly is the root and path of the infected reg string of the infected file... then what i been doing is collecting some of that information and then in the future when ever i see something similar to what i had in the past i put it to the test like if i am the anti-spyware and it works like a charm!
so with that in my way i no longer need that anti-spyware any more... but what happen with the update spyware list? not a problem, all i have to do is a search on new spyware list on the world-wide-web and thats it :-)
and that apply to viruses and trojans too!
